Sharon is this country’s most quoted authority on solo travel. Her opinions
are sought by major media including USA Today, Time magazine,
CNN, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and
more. She has been a
featured guest on over 30 television programs and more than 100 radio shows.
Her career as flight attendant for a major, world airline - a job in
which she is still active after 35 years, provides the foundation of her
travel expertise. She has traveled extensively throughout the world. Since
a divorce in 1985, she has explored alone in 23 countries, including Argentina, Australia,
Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico,
Singapore, Spain, Turkey, Yugoslavia and all around the United States.
She is
author of the book, Travel Alone & Love It: A Flight Attendant’s
Guide to Solo Travel. Written for men and women of all ages and levels
of travel experience, this book has been endorsed by major media nationwide
and has been a primary solo-travel resource since its 1996 debut.
Sharon has written a monthly, solo travel column, which appeared in the Boston
Herald, Columbus
Dispatch and Chicagoland’s
Senior News. She also writes about solo travel for ThriftyTraveling.com,
both the website and the bi-monthly newsletter.
Sharon’s
freelance travel articles have appeared in Maiden Voyages magazine,
Pathfinder Travel magazine, Tower Air magazine, The Rotarian
magazine, Divorce magazine, The Mature Traveler newsletter
and on many websites, including Journeywoman.com, ThriftyTraveler.com,
SinglesTravelIntl.com and MaidenVoyages.com.
Public
speaking was a fear Sharon learned to conquer. Groups both public and
private have retained her to present programs on solo travel and she has
been engaged to speak at book signings presented by major bookstores such
as Borders Books & Music and Barnes & Noble.
Writing,
traveling and flying keep her busy. Family and friends keep her sane.
Her long time relationship with Larry, her beloved husband, proves that even happily attached people can travel alone and love it!
